Waiting for God

ree

"Let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire...” - James

One great lesson that's needed in life as we journey is patience. If you would lead a godly and exemplary life, you must go to the School of Patience. We all have good desires of things we want to achieve and we could become very passionate about getting those things as soon as possible. It's wrong to live a purposeless life. However, understanding that our times are in His hands, we need to trust God with our lives, having confidence that He has good intentions for us. Jer. 29:11. Carnal comparison has made many a believer to lose the spirit of thankfulness and resort to complaining and murmurings. We need to watch against this.

Waiting for God is perhaps one of the most difficult things to do. However, God is more concerned about who we are than what we have, and this is why He takes time to build in us strength of character so we can withstand the ups and downs of life. It might interest you to know that someone who is strong in the time of lack may become sidetracked and lose grip on spirituality in times of success or abundance. I am still grateful to God for spending 2 years at home after secondary school because God was preparing me for campus experiences. People may not understand and call it a delay. God doesn't see it that way because He is working behind the scenes.

Striking a balance

Many think waiting for God means sitting idly. No. They aren't synonymous. As we wait for God to intervene in a situation or grant our heart desires, there are some things we're expected to do:

1. Importunate prayer: As you wait for God, one thing you're expected to do is to maintain faith in God and persist in prayer till what you are seeking becomes a reality. Murmuring and anxiety won’t bring the solution.

2. Doing the will of God: We are expected to keep doing the will of God as we wait for God to change our present unpleasant situations. There is no need to compromise. Keep standing on the solid Rock and keep walking in the light. Your change will come.

3. Thanksgiving: We are told to give thanks to God at all times. You may not have seen that which you expect from the Lord yet, still thank Him for it. This accelerates your faith and builds your confidence in the Lord.

4. Service: It is possible to become discouraged about service in God's vineyard when we lack some basic necessities of life, and the lack is so obvious. However, we need to encourage ourselves in the Lord. Job said, "Though He slay me, yet I'll trust Him". Think of Zacharias and Elisabeth who kept on serving God even with their challenge of lack of children. God was faithful, and He gave them their request. John was the forerunner of the Lord Jesus. Keep trusting God and keep serving Him.

5. Plan ahead: You're praying and waiting on God for an admission, but are you preparing to excellently pass all the exams that will help you qualify? You're waiting on God concerning marriage, but are you preparing yourself to be the right person?
